How to Get Up From a Chair in Five Easy Steps!

Stores will usually allow you to put the rental payments towards the purchase price if you do decide to buy.

Getting up from the toilet may be another tricky maneuver. This is even easier to solve, using a raised toilet seat. If you are picturing one of those big balloons that sit wobbling on the toilet, think again. Modern raises come in 2, 4 and 6 inch heights, and clamp securely onto the toilet. A wall bar beside and just in front of the toilet helps too. If you are a renter and are not allowed to fasten a bar to the wall, there are toilet frames. These can either be free-standing or attached to the toilet, using the bolts that hold the seat on. These frames function just like arms for your toilet.

But even though it's the most often-used fixture in the bathroom, most redesigners don't give a lot of thought to one feature: the humble toilet. The one you choose can make a difference, however. Read on for seven things to consider when buying a new toilet.

One-piece vs. two-piece. Most toilets come in two different designs: the one-piece and the two-piece, or close-coupled toilet. Close-coupled toilets are the most common, and tend to be the cheaper type. These employ an attached but separate tank and bowl. One-piece toilets have a tank built into the back of the bowl. These tend to be easier to clean, because there's no small gap between the tank and the bowl. However, they're usually more expensive. One-piece models have a lower profile than close-coupled toilets, and some redesigners like the more compact profile.

Seat shape and size. Toilet bowls come in either round or elongated models. Elongated seats are generally about two inches longer, and provide a bit more surface area--making the toilet a bit more comfortable than the round variety. Round toilets are smaller, and better for tight spaces. If you have the space for it, however, you may appreciate the comfort of an elongated bowl.

The flush system. Most toilets operate on a gravity flush system. These rely on the pressure of water in the tank as well as the weight of the water in the bowl to force water and waste into the pipes. Old-fashioned toilets with wall-mounted tanks relied on the height of the tank to increase the head pressure. Gravity-flush toilets are the most common and least expensive type.

Pressure-assisted flushing mechanisms, however, are gaining in popularity. These incorporate a cylinder of pressurized air inside the toilet tank to provide force to the flushing mechanism. These types of toilets typically have a loud, forceful flush, and are often used in commercial bathrooms.

Some cutting-edge toilet manufacturers offer dual-flush toilets that can help you save water. These offer a "half flush" for liquid waste and a "full flush" for solid waste. This lets you adjust the amount of water you use for lighter or heavier loads.

If you have a floor-discharge drain line, your toilet will need to be bolted to the floor. A wall-discharge drain line requires a wall-mounted toilet. You can find both gravity and pressure-assisted toilets in both designs.

Extra features. There are many extra features that can make a toilet more sanitary and luxurious. These include heated seats; motorized seats that lower automatically; ceramic glazes that make the toilet largely antibacterial; built-in bidet and drying features; insulation that prevents condensation on the outside of the bowl; and more.

The toilet may not be the most glamorous item in your bathroom, but it's one of the most necessary. Take your time when choosing a toilet. The Review

The narrative opens with twelve-year-old baseball player Jake Waters' getting beaned with a toilet plunger. That plunger was followed by another, and another. Jake's stepmother Wanda has had it with Jake's dad and his obsession with all things toilet. She is leaving; it was Wanda who for good measure heaved the plungers and a heavy wooden toilet seat from the second story window. From that beginning we follow Jake on his quest to leave the little Kansas town Patience. Patience was founded long ago by Jake's g-g-g- grandfather Jeremiah. Jake's plumber dad Jim is determined to open the first ATM - (The) American Toilet Museum and put dying Patience back on the map.

From that beginning we follow Jake in his quest to be the first male Waters' to escape tiny Patience, Kansas. Buried treasure, cow pies, the nearby manure plant - fertilizer plant, thunderstorms, antique commodes, more toilet plungers, impassioned discussions between neighbors, as well as tornadoes, 8 player workup baseball, the seventh inning stench, toilet, sanitary plumbing, memorabilia collected over the years and the PLUNGER OF DESTINY, the Scepter of Satan, all figure in the tale.

According to local legend the town is cursed: the final destruction of Patience will take place when the Plunger of Destiny is brought back to the town. Jake is horrified to learn that his father has actually ordered the thing from eBay. Jake knows he must stay on his toes - for any signs that he curse is taking place. He doesn't find a curse, but he does find a real live thief and a situation to cause the EPA shudders.

I enjoyed the subplot threaded through the narrative as Jakes's ancestor brings the first flush toilet to the town. Outhouses, progression of mechanical equipment, social mores, false notion concerning toilets in general are all intertwined.

Jake's friend Sira, a girl born in Pakistan is fun to read. She loves trivia and is busy memorizing facts, speak a number and she immediately has a fact to go with that year, 1868, 1908, 1932, Sira has something for each one.

Writer Meehl has taken a not oft used subject: toilets and their history, and has woven a fast paced, easily read tale filled with tension, absurdity, an adequate amount of crass situations and events to satisfy the target audience of middle grade readers. Notions of camaraderie, accountability and family trace through the plot without appearing as preachy or overpowering.

A mischievous narrative voice combined with well fleshed settings, convincing characters and keen-witted dialogue move the reader quickly from the opening raining plungers scene to the last page where we find the town recovering from the First Annual Curse of Cass Festival held the day before. All in all Writer Meehl has crafted a fun read sure to appeal to the target audience.

Out of Patience is a must read for the middle grade reader, will be a good addition to the personal reading shelf. Not for everyone, some parents and librarians may be put off by an abundance of manure/toilet humor.

Enjoyed the read; I was the Hobby and Collectibles superintendent for the Kern County Fair, Bakersfield, California for many years, and know full well that for every gizmo, tool or whatsis ever devised there IS a collector who believes it wonderful. I have no doubt that somewhere there is a person collecting toilet memorabilia as we speak.

Spiders Really Do Live Under Toilet Seats

If you've ever heard anything about Australia it may be that you've been told to look under the toilet seat for Redback spiders before stealing some uninterrupted time in the quietest and darkest room of the house - the Aussie outback toilet. Australia is home to some of the most-deadly insects and arachnids in the world - all of which, despite their fearsome reputation, are extremely photographic.

Macro photography is generally recognized as the art of capturing images of small objects at a scale larger than life. Insects and spiders fit perfectly into the serious macro photographer's psyche as they pose in unpredictable positions and are always on the move. Depending on the insect - this can make it extremely difficult to capture them clearly-enough for the photograph to be of high-enough quality for presentation value.

The Australian Redback spider is a very timid creature. It lives in warm dark places such as wood piles, under the eaves of homes, along timber fences and yes - even under the famed outback Aussie toilet seat! They've even started to make their presence known in the steel cities of Japan - courtesy of shipments of Australian iron ore.

Finding a Redback can sometimes be the easy part of the shoot - they're everywhere in summer. Getting the little creature to keep still and pose in the right position and light can be the difficult part.

Shooting macro photography images usually means getting as close as only a couple of inches away from the subject. This can sometimes be a disturbing experience when photographing the Redback. They're mostly shy and sometimes move fast.

I've never read anywhere that Redback spiders can jump; however I've had a couple of experiences where I've witnessed this. It's usually the smaller ones that will leap from the leaf of a shrub and swing on a fine thread to the ground in an attempt to escape. So when you've spent the last five minutes setting up the shot only to see the highly magnified spider disappear from the eyepiece of the camera in an instant - you'll find yourself spending the next fifteen minutes looking for the damn thing up the leg of your trousers!

The silky smooth blackness of the Redback in sunlight lends itself to a set of gleaming macro photographs you'll be proud to show to your friends.

If you go searching for a Redback to photograph, be warned; around 200 Australians are bitten each year!

Do You Know If There's Mold Under Your Toilet? You Better Check

Annually, thousands of owners make the choice to have their bathrooms remodeled. Many of these house owners enjoy doing their reworking, but there are others who feel as if they opened up a can of worms. Those homeowners are likely the unfortunate bunch who found mold in their bathroom.

If you were reworking your toilet and you find mould, did you know what to do? Sadly, a substantial number of people wouldn't. Before you get to grips with what you need to do if you find mildew in your toilet, it's critical to look at what mold is. Mold is scientifically described as being a miniscule fungus. This fungus not only looks repulsive, but it can be perilous. While some sorts of mildew are regarded as comparatively safe, there are more sorts of mould that are thought to be dangerous. 5 Ways to Stop Your Cat Peeing Problems

1) Make sure something isn't seriously wrong with your cat. If you cat has suddenly started behaving in this way it might be worth taking him/her for a checkups with the vet. Cats are very good at hiding little illnesses and urinary tract infections can produce unpleasant reactions for that cat. The most common is that he/she will equate going to the litter box with a pain sensation. Thus the cat may be peeing elsewhere to try and alleviate this pain.

2) Have there been any changes to the household? Cats, like people hate sudden changes in their environment. if these changes are severe enough, cat peeing problems can develop. If a new cat has entered the household, your cat might feel threatened and ill at ease when using the litter box and thus might seek refuge in another part of the house to do her business. To solve this, give the cat a room in the house (or even a section of a room) that the other cat is not permitted to enter. By building up trust in this section of the house she will feel more confident in using the litter tray.

3) Your cat's preferences might've changed. As a young kitten the cutesy litter box you bought for her might have been sufficient, but as she has grown her tastes and needs have changed. If the litter box has a lid try removing it. It is often the case that by peeing elsewhere your cat is trying to tell you that something is wrong with her environment and it is up to you to find out what.

4) Try and stay one step ahead. Cat peeing need not be the bain of your life. When you cat pees somewhere unusual try moving the litter box to where she had her last movement. Cats are contentious, and will often return to the scene of an accident. If the cat then subsequently finds that the mess is gone and instead her familiar litter try is in its place than she may start using the litter try instead.

5) Train your cat to use a human toilet. If you have plenty of time on your hands this method could be the answer to your cat peeing problems forever. The easiest way to train your cat to use a human toilet is to use 'incremental training'. This involves slowly changing your cats behaviour towards the actions you desire. This process can be done over a month or two. The most important thing to remember when doing this is to take the process very slowly and entirely at your cats pace. Firstly you need to start by slowly moving the litter box closer and closer to your toilet. You need to move it slowly over the course of a week or two to help your cat get used to using the litter box next to the toilet. This process is painfully slow, and may well take a lot longer than a few weeks, but it is well worth sticking to. Once your cat has been using the litter box next to the toilet for a couple of weeks, slowly start to raise the litter box up, a little each week until the height is the same as the toilet seat. This process is fraught with difficulties, not least how to convince your cat to climb ever higher for its litter box. My solution is to be creative. Try and carefully construct a ramp that you cat can climb up or some stacks of books. The last thing you want is for your cat to associate going to the loo with having to jump ever higher. This can exacerbate cat peeing problems! If all goes well you can move the litter box on top of the toilet and then insert a litter box that sits into the rim of the toilet. (this will put your toilet out of action for a few days so please only do this if you have more than one toilet!!). Once your cat gets used to this, carefully remove it and hopefully, if all has gone well, your cat will now be independent!

Potty Training a Developmentally Delayed Child

The most important thing you need to remember when potty training a developmentally delayed child is that potty training may not happen until your child is much older than his peers. As a parent, you may want him to potty train sooner, but like any potty training child, he isn't going to be potty trained until he is ready. You can start pre-potty training your developmentally delayed child whenever you are ready. Your little one might stay stuck in the pre-potty training step for a long time before you ever see a potty training success, but be patient. He will figure it out eventually.

Here are some pre-potty training ideas that you can do with your developmentally delayed child.

-Teach him the words for urine and feces. You can use whatever words you want to for this. During diaper changes talk to him and make sure to tell him about "pee pee" and "poo poo". If he isn't talking yet don't worry, his receptive language (what he understands) may develop before his expressive language (what he can say).

-If he is walking, take him to the bathroom when you go to the bathroom. Let him flush the toilet or sit on the toilet. If he doesn't want to sit on the toilet or if he gets scared, back off and go have some fun. Making him sit on the toilet when he isn't ready will just make potty training more difficult.

-Get him a potty seat or potty chair. Don't worry if he doesn't actually use his potty seat any time soon. Let him sit on it when he wants to. He may not actually pee on the potty but let him enjoy his potty seat and being a big boy.

Signs that your child is ready to start potty training.

- He can walk to the bathroom by himself

-He can take his pants on and off by himself

-He can understand simple instructions

-He has regular bowel movements

-He is capable of communicating his needs to you

-He takes an interest in wearing underwear

-He is not afraid of the toilet

-He lets you know when his diaper is wet or soiled or takes diapers off

Once he starts showing signs that he is ready to start potty training take things slowly and be patient. Take him to the potty and let him sit on the toilet or potty chair. He may not actually go on the potty but as long as he is happy let him sit on the potty for a while. He may enjoy sitting on the potty like a big boy but not actually get what he is supposed to be doing. Don't worry. He will get it eventually. Let him practice sitting on the potty once or twice a day. First thing in the morning and right after nap time are both good times to let him try sitting on the potty. If he gets frustrated or you get frustrated take some time off.

You may go through months before you have one success but one day you will be pleasantly surprised when your developmentally delayed child finally pees on the potty. The first success is always the most exciting but don't be surprised if the first success isn't followed by another. When my developmentally delayed child started potty training and finally had a success, I though "eureka, he's finally got it." Just to be disappointed when he didn't do it again for another two or three months. Keep plugging along and keep letting him practice sitting on the potty. In time his success stories will be more frequent and eventually he will be completely potty trained.
