So you think toilet seats are boring? I guess you haven't been shopping for a replacement seat lately. It used to be a bit like that old quote attributed to Henry Ford, "you can have any color so long as it's black" I don't think it was true in Fords case and it wasn't quite true in the case of toilet seats.
For many years you had a choice of black, white or wood. Prior to the use of plastic for household goods it was wood or nothing, though you most likely had a choice of wood but of course the more attractive woods like mahogany were expensive.
With the advent of plastic seats there came a new generation of smooth and shiny seats, usually black in color. They were regarded by many as more hygienic than wood, certainly they were easier to clean, and the eliminated the danger of splinters where you least expected them.
It wasn't long before you had the choice of a white seat which a lot of people obviously preferred, believing that it looked more aesthetically pleasing and possibly "cleaner" if you like. Of course wooden seats were still available for those who preferred the look of wood, not to mention the warmth of a wooden toilet seat when compared to the cold plastic ones. Also there were developments in the wood finishes available which made wooden seats easier to clean without the need for scrubbing bare wood.
We haven't yet considered the hardware used to attach the seat to the toilet itself, usually some sort of hinge arrangement with bolts to fix the seat to the porcelain pan. These fittings would usually be of brass for the more expensive seats or iron or steel for the cheaper market. Steel of course rusts very easily, chrome plating can help delay this but unfortunately not forever, and to chrome plate steel means a complicated process of first coating the steel with other metals such as zinc and brass. This also means the fittings cost more. The invention of stainless steel meant you didn't need the complicated plating progress to make rust roof hardware.
Now of course we have an amazing range of plastic seats which often have plastic fitting hardware too. Of course plastic is a pretty basic description for a whole range of synthetic materials from polypropylene to acrylic resin. There are also many wooden seats which have a vinyl coating which makes them durable and easy to clean. When I say wood it can mean some type of wood and resin compound like medium density fibreboard.
Acrylic resins have the added attraction of being available in clear or translucent colors; this means you can embed objects in the resin such as sea shells, dried flowers, pictures even pieces of barbed wire! So now there's a huge range of novelty seats available to match the décor of your bathroom whatever the style you choose and no matter how wild or outrageous. Toilet seats boring, not any more.

In this article I am going to give 5 reasons explaining why a bidet is better to use then toilet paper. Most Americans do not know what a bidet is. When they find out about it, they still prefer to use toilet paper. They don't know why a bidet is better and this article will explain why.
1)Using a Bidet is Cheaper Then Toil
The average American spends a lot of money on toilet paper. This money can be saved using a bidet. The bidet has a one time fee in the beginning when you buy it but after that you don't have to pay for anything. Paper requires constant restocking and you have to buy a lot of it especially if you have a big family. Using the bidet eliminates the use of paper to almost nothing. Some people prefer to dry off with paper after using the bidet but you don't have to. Using a small towel also works.
2)The Bidet is Environmental Friendly
Using a bidet will eliminate the use of toilet paper which kills a lot of trees each year. If Americans would reduce the number of toilet paperr they could save a lot of trees. On average an American uses 23.7 rolls each year which can add up especially if the family is big. If there is a bidet in the house hold, the family would save on paper and not waste as many trees.
3)A Bidet Never Runs Out
The worst thing that can happen is running out of toilet paper after going to the bathroom, especially if there is none left in the house. The person is trouble since he can't clean after himself. When using toilet paper one has to always be aware of how much is left and stock up if there is none left. With the use of the bidet the person does not have worry about running out of toilet paper and does not have worry about going to buy it at late hours of the night. The bidet is always there and as long as there is water in the house, the person will always be able to clean after himself. It will not run out and will always be available to use.
4)The Bidet is More Hygienic
When one wipes with toilet paper it still leaves the smell and the feces still there. If one does not do a good job of cleaning it can cause irritation and can cause itchiness. With the use of the bidet one uses water and cleans the area with water which is better then just wiping with paper. Its the same as when one washes their hand before supper, they don't wipe their hands with toilet paper, they wash it and even use soap. This is the same idea. Using water is always more efficient and hygienic than toilet paper.
5)A Bidet is Quicker and Easier
When using toilet paper, it can take a while to wipe everything and even than one won't do a good job which can lead to stains and irritation. The bidet on the other hand can give a refreshed clean feeling after just using it for 15 seconds. When using a bidet one does not have to constantly wipe. Without water the paper does not leave a clean feeling after being done. It always feels like there's something left. The bidet will clean everything and leave you feeling refreshed after every use with just the click of a button.

So, you've already purchased your bidet toilet seat, and now you need to install it, but you're not a plumber or a contractor. No problem! Installation is very easy and you will only need a few common tools and about 15-30 minutes start to finish.
The first thing you should know is that bidet seats are made to be compatible with just about every toilet fixture that exists out there. The companies that make bidet toilet seats like Kohler, Brondell, Coco, Toto and BioBidet want to make sure their products are going to fit your toilet with no retrofitting needed. All bidet seats are designed to replace your existing toilet seat and fit seamlessly with your toilet.
Unlike a traditional freestanding bidet, your toilet seat bidet requires no extra floorspace, no expensive plumbers or contractors, and no week long renovations costing in the 10's of thousands. Instead, you will simply follow some simple instructions and be enjoying the benefits of cleansing with warm water in just about thirty minutes or so. Here are the basic steps to follow:
Step 1: Remove your current toilet seat by unscrewing the two plastic bolts that connect the seat to the bowl. You can find these at the underside of the bowl and more often than not they can be unscrewed without the need for any tools. Unscrew the bolts fully and remove the old seat.
Step 2: Move the new bidet toilet seat into position. The holes for the plastic bolts you just removed should line up perfectly since this is a standardized component. If you received new bolts with your purchase, use them, otherwise the old bolts with do just fine. Screw the nuts into place and finger-tighten, if you want to tighten further, use and wrench but be careful not to mangle the plastic.
Step 3: Turn of the water valve that feeds the holding tank to your toilet. With a wrench, unscrew the top pipe. Your seat should come with fittings and a flexible hose that will replace this pipe. Connect all the pieces and tighten with a wrench. You should use Teflon tape to ensure that the connections are watertight.
You're done! Now all you have to do is turn on the water valve and activate your new unit (batteries if it requires power). Many of the high-end bidet seats feature a remote control so you may need batteries. Some will also feature a wall mount for the remote or a come with a special holding tank for heated water - but that's for another article. Enjoy your new bidet seat and the soothing, sanitary jet of water that will change your life!

Although the toilet seat may not be the most honored seat in the house, let's be honest-it's pretty important. If the toilet seat in your bathroom is chipped, stained or discolored from chemicals or time, consider purchasing a new one.
You will be surprised at how this one small piece of "furniture" can set a new tone for the bathroom. With a variety of colors, textures, shapes and special effects, shopping for a toilet seat may be more interesting than ever before.
The Basics
Before starting your search for the perfect toilet seat, keep in mind there are two basic shapes to choose from: round or oblong. This first thing you need to do is determine the size and shape of your toilet. Measure from the front of the bowl to the area between the screws at the back of the lid area.
A round toilet bowl is 16.5 inches and an oblong one is 18.5 inches. Okay, you could probably just "eyeball" it to find out if you have a round or oblong toilet, but using a tape measure makes it more official.
The second choice you should make to narrow down your toilet seat selections, is to decide if you want a plastic or wood seat. As with any product, there are pros and cons to each type and it will all come down to a matter of personal choice. Plastic toilet seats are usually cheaper, but they can crack or scratch. Wood seats are warmer on a chilly winter morning, but they may stain more quickly from cleaners.
Although wood seats are more expensive, they will last longer, but plastic seats may offer more choices in colors, styles and textures. As you can see, we've only just touched two areas of consideration and already the choices are adding up.
Durability, comfort and ease of cleaning should also be factored into your choice of a toilet seat. Take some time to shop around and get the best price but don't sacrifice quality for a few dollars. A toilet seat is important; it's something you will use everyday, so choose carefully.
Special Seats
If you want to go beyond the basics to something more unique, there are toilet seats to take you there. Some seats have automatic slow-closing lids, while others glow in the dark or have temperature controls.
If you want a certain theme in your bathroom, choose from nautical or elegant or modern designs. Young children just learning to use the toilet will especially love the seats featuring cartoon characters. Perhaps some adults will like them too!

It's easy to get excited about designer sinks, clawfoot tubs, and steam showers when you're redesigning your bathroom. Most contractors and homeowners pay a great deal of attention to these fixtures: their design can make a big difference in function, and extras can give your bathroom a feeling of luxury.
But even though it's the most often-used fixture in the bathroom, most redesigners don't give a lot of thought to one feature: the humble toilet. The one you choose can make a difference, however. Read on for seven things to consider when buying a new toilet.
One-piece vs. two-piece. Most toilets come in two different designs: the one-piece and the two-piece, or close-coupled toilet. Close-coupled toilets are the most common, and tend to be the cheaper type. These employ an attached but separate tank and bowl. One-piece toilets have a tank built into the back of the bowl. These tend to be easier to clean, because there's no small gap between the tank and the bowl. However, they're usually more expensive. One-piece models have a lower profile than close-coupled toilets, and some redesigners like the more compact profile.
Seat shape and size. Toilet bowls come in either round or elongated models. Elongated seats are generally about two inches longer, and provide a bit more surface area--making the toilet a bit more comfortable than the round variety. Round toilets are smaller, and better for tight spaces. If you have the space for it, however, you may appreciate the comfort of an elongated bowl.
The flush system. Most toilets operate on a gravity flush system. These rely on the pressure of water in the tank as well as the weight of the water in the bowl to force water and waste into the pipes. Old-fashioned toilets with wall-mounted tanks relied on the height of the tank to increase the head pressure. Gravity-flush toilets are the most common and least expensive type.
Pressure-assisted flushing mechanisms, however, are gaining in popularity. These incorporate a cylinder of pressurized air inside the toilet tank to provide force to the flushing mechanism. These types of toilets typically have a loud, forceful flush, and are often used in commercial bathrooms.
Some cutting-edge toilet manufacturers offer dual-flush toilets that can help you save water. These offer a "half flush" for liquid waste and a "full flush" for solid waste. This lets you adjust the amount of water you use for lighter or heavier loads.
The trapway. The trapway is the part of the toilet through which water and waste exit. The larger the trapway, the better. A larger trapway allows for better flushing action and less risk of clogs. In addition, when you're in the store, be sure to ask if a toilet's trapway is fully glazed. A fully glazed trapway has a smoother surface. It can improve flushing performance and make the bowl easier to clean.
Toilet height. Toilets come in many different sizes and heights. If there are any senior citizens living in your home, they may find a higher toilet to be more comfortable--they won't have to lower themselves as far to sit down on it. If you have young children, you may want to consider a shorter toilet so they can access it more easily.
Attachment method. Whether you choose a floor-mounted or wall-mounted toilet will depend on the plumbing in your bathroom. The drain line in your bathroom is the pipe that takes the water and waste from your toilet bowl to the sewer or septic tank, and this can be either a floor-discharge or wall-discharge design. If you have a floor-discharge drain line, your toilet will need to be bolted to the floor. A wall-discharge drain line requires a wall-mounted toilet. You can find both gravity and pressure-assisted toilets in both designs.
Extra features. There are many extra features that can make a toilet more sanitary and luxurious. These include heated seats; motorized seats that lower automatically; ceramic glazes that make the toilet largely antibacterial; built-in bidet and drying features; insulation that prevents condensation on the outside of the bowl; and more.
The toilet may not be the most glamorous item in your bathroom, but it's one of the most necessary. Take your time when choosing a toilet. Be sure to measure the distance between the wall and the drain line opening, if you have a floor-discharge drain line. With a wall-discharge drain line, measure the distance between the floor and the drain line. With these measurements, you can be sure to find the right toilet for your bathroom.

If you've ever heard anything about Australia it may be that you've been told to look under the toilet seat for Redback spiders before stealing some uninterrupted time in the quietest and darkest room of the house - the Aussie outback toilet. Australia is home to some of the most-deadly insects and arachnids in the world - all of which, despite their fearsome reputation, are extremely photographic.
Macro photography is generally recognized as the art of capturing images of small objects at a scale larger than life. Insects and spiders fit perfectly into the serious macro photographer's psyche as they pose in unpredictable positions and are always on the move. Depending on the insect - this can make it extremely difficult to capture them clearly-enough for the photograph to be of high-enough quality for presentation value.
The Australian Redback spider is a very timid creature. It lives in warm dark places such as wood piles, under the eaves of homes, along timber fences and yes - even under the famed outback Aussie toilet seat! They've even started to make their presence known in the steel cities of Japan - courtesy of shipments of Australian iron ore.
Finding a Redback can sometimes be the easy part of the shoot - they're everywhere in summer. Getting the little creature to keep still and pose in the right position and light can be the difficult part.
Shooting macro photography images usually means getting as close as only a couple of inches away from the subject. This can sometimes be a disturbing experience when photographing the Redback. They're mostly shy and sometimes move fast.
I've never read anywhere that Redback spiders can jump; however I've had a couple of experiences where I've witnessed this. It's usually the smaller ones that will leap from the leaf of a shrub and swing on a fine thread to the ground in an attempt to escape. So when you've spent the last five minutes setting up the shot only to see the highly magnified spider disappear from the eyepiece of the camera in an instant - you'll find yourself spending the next fifteen minutes looking for the damn thing up the leg of your trousers!
The silky smooth blackness of the Redback in sunlight lends itself to a set of gleaming macro photographs you'll be proud to show to your friends.
If you go searching for a Redback to photograph, be warned; around 200 Australians are bitten each year!

Annually, thousands of owners make the choice to have their bathrooms remodeled. Many of these house owners enjoy doing their reworking, but there are others who feel as if they opened up a can of worms. Those homeowners are likely the unfortunate bunch who found mold in their bathroom.
If you were reworking your toilet and you find mould, did you know what to do? Sadly, a substantial number of people wouldn't. Before you get to grips with what you need to do if you find mildew in your toilet, it's critical to look at what mold is. Mold is scientifically described as being a miniscule fungus. This fungus not only looks repulsive, but it can be perilous. While some sorts of mildew are regarded as comparatively safe, there are more sorts of mould that are thought to be dangerous. Unfortunately, because of the moisture that may be found within most bogs, black, noxious mildew can be discovered in thousands of bathrooms in the US.
If you begin to rework your rest room and you find mildew under your toilet or perhaps under you floor tiles, there's a good probability that you'll have black mildew on your hands. As formerly discussed, black mold is commonly outlined as being a noxious mould.
This is as it is one of the most perilous kinds of all molds. As well as having respiration issues, you can develop headaches, skin rashes, fevers, and other flu-like symptoms. Though your first impulse might be to get rid of the mold yourself, you may need to rethink your call to do so.
When mould is removed, mold spores can spread through the remainder of your house. That's why it could be good to call on a pro. That pro will probably be a mold removal expert or an air quality control consultant. Even though it can be quite dear to have your mould tested and removed, you'll wish to do so. If your mold isn't taken care of, professionally, it can start to spread and even move into other bits of your house. When you have had your mould removed from your bathroom, regardless of what kind of mildew it is, you may need to take steps to stop another mould outbreak from occurring in the future. You can simply do this by incorporating one or two additional projects into your bathroom remodeling plan. It could be a great idea to make certain that your toilet has a fan installed in it.
If you don't already have a fan installed in your bathroom, you may need to get one immediately. It's been noted that working fans help to get rid of the moisture that mildew, especially black mold, prospers off. Irrespective of what kind of rest room fan you want to buy, whether or not it's a standard rest room fan or an ornamental one, you should be capable of finding whatever you're looking for online or at one of your local renovation stores. Without regard for where you get a bathroom fan from, you are suggested to buy one, even if you do not have already got a mold problem.
